About Rocket Venues

Rocket Venues was founded in 1996 by a group of students from St Andrews University and staged its first performances at the South Bridge Resource Center. Over time Rocket Venues has produced shows in numerous spaces around Edinburgh, but throughout its history Rocket has strived to stay close to the spirit of the Fringe: experimental, new, challenging, and affordable. In 1999 Rocket teamed up with the Demarco European Arts Foundation to form Demarco-Rocket Productions, and together Rocket and the Demarco Foundation have added Eastern European and international theatre to its diverse line-up of productions at the Fringe. Much as it was eleven years ago, Rocket is run by a staff of dedicated volunteers, most of whom are students donating their time in the service of theatre, and it remains committed to providing a friendly, welcoming venue for theatre and audiences at the Fringe.

2008 marks the sixth year Rocket is appearing at the Roxy Art House. Formerly Lady Glenorchy's Parish Church. The Roxy is occassionally used during the rest of the year for arts and cultural events, and during the Fringe Roxy's four theatre spaces provide diverse performance experiences within the confines of soaring Gothic Revival architecture.

We invite applications from groups working in all forms of theatre: comedy, music, mime, physical theatre, dance, musicals, puppets, devised work, new writing, contemporary works, and classical theatre. All groups are welcome: solo performances, student groups of all levels, theatre companies new and experienced, and professional companies. We would also be willing to consider art exhibitions or other forms of artistic expression. Please contact us and inquire.
