About Richard Demarco
Richard Demarco was born in Edinburgh in 1930. His worldwide reputation as an exhibition and theatre director, art patron, and teacher began when he was Vice-chairman of Edinburgh Traverse Theatre and Art Gallery from 1963-1966. He continued his work under the aegis of the Richard Demarco Gallery 1966-1992 and the Demarco European Art Foundation 1992-2000. Since 1993, he has been professor of European Cultural Studies at Kingston University, London. He was appointed the first Director of Sean Connery's Scottish International Trust in 1972; the Polish Gold Order of Merit 1976; the Cavaliere della Republica d'Italia 1988; the Polish International Institute of Theatre Award 1992; Chevalier des Arts et Lettres de France. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1984.
